So this past weekend I had what I would call a very great date which ended with an amazing slow dance. Being that I am very shy it takes a while for me to warm up to a person in general and this slow dance definitely did just that for me. As we rocked back and forth oh so harmoniously his hands around my waist and my face snuggled in his neck every worry of mine seemed to cease. As I await for another chance to slow dance with HIM I will leave this here song by Keri Hilson in remembrance of my perfect SLOW DANCE.

So this past weekend I was opn my R&B Thug Flow and decided to purchase this song for a special playlists. *Winks*
I used to love this song so I went to pay a visit to their album Baby Makin' Project and grabbed this and a few others. Not only does this track take me back a few years it just reminds me of when R&B Artists used to actually make songs to make women fall in love. SIGHS.
I then opened up to him. Told him how I worked for a college and everyday individuals enroll who are twice his age. I shared my collegiate experiences with him and how there was a 60 year old man in one of my classes who was a genius to me. How this 60 year old man was very intellectual and intelligent beyond our years yet here he is obtaining a collegiate degree at his older age. The once nervous and timid body language turned into joy and smiles. He looked at me with one that exuded gratitude and a new found hope. The woman next to him smiled and nodded often. Maybe she too agreed with the advice I was giving. My mom for the first time I had noticed looked at me with admiration and I could tell how proud she was. The young man was now speechless and lost in thought. He smiled at me and stared even more now. I smiled and winked at him to ensure him that the feeling was mutual .For the first time in my life I felt like I had truly then began my mission here on earth. To help all people WANT to be and do better. For I am merely a lower class African American woman who has a great work ethic and just wants to be great.
Ding went the trains intercom and was followed by the words from the conductor " You are now at Addison ...Home of the Cubs”. I waved and told the young man that it was nice meeting him and to make sure that he puts forth that effort to be great one day. He smiled eagerly and assured me that he now he would look into college as soon as he could get to a computer. We got off the train and my mom high fived me and said, " Thank You for that, for he appreciated you talking to him. You are a good person and now lets go see this ball game". She and I hadn't been to a baseball game together EVER, hell we hadn’t been many places together but we were making strides towards getting to know each other better. We grabbed our Will Call tickets at the VIP window and proceeded towards the gate. Inside my mom was in awe at all the people and the vintage look of the stadium. The exact same reason I loved that place. We used the restroom and decided to get beers too..."This is cool" I said to her, "It sure is" was her reply. Even though I had once worked here for a year while in high school I was lost and couldn’t find our seats so I asked an attendant. The lady looked as if she was on her break or had somewhere to get to quickly yet she still escorted us and I appreciate her for all her great customer service. We walked down a very steep landing, up a couple stairs, and out to many lights with many people yelling and cheering. We were at the Ball Game.

I was lucky enough to get an invite to The WiseGuyz show last Saturday by a friend and it was beyond amazing. Comprised of two identical twins by the names of Shad and Preach their presence on stage draws in the viewer and their interaction with the crowd made me want at least a 2 hour show. They performed a few of their tracks off their new mixtape Y.F.F Vol:2"EXPENSIVE" which is now on DatPiff for download. I am clearly in love with "Get Rich" as I listen to it everyday..... and I mean everyday. I wake up, bump it loudly, get in my zone while getting ready for work, play it in my car as I get way too turnt, and I even play it before bed so my dreams can consist of such greatness as well LOL. Don't judge me but it definitely puts me in the right mind frame and that is trying to get rich out here. This is definitely my new anthem and y'all should take a listen to the full mixtape as they have a few other tracks on there that I like as well such as "Legendary","Dreaming, and "Blessing"

The ball game was strange...some may have been ecstatic by the fame....But I for some reason remained the same!
It all began with a long train ride, in which had been a few years since my last travels on such, but we were ready. Immediately after we got on a young man decided I was the perfect stranger to confide in and that was fine with me. He began to tell me about how he writes poetry and also does impersonations and I was sure he would soon demonstrate one or the other. He looked like he had been through some trials because they were written all over his face and by his body language I could tell he was nervous speaking to me. He initially asked me for directions and I provided him with such. He then asked me if I would like to hear the poetry but being that it was a full train I opted to read it myself. Most people would have ignored him but I chose to listen and interact. Why not??? I’m no better than him nor anyone else here. So I opened my ears and my eyes and began to envision life differently. Even though the handwriting was extremely hard to decipher (this he told me) I managed to make out plenty of the words. The poem was one of sadness, sorrow, and doubt. This young man was having a battle with life and even though I am unable to recall the title I do remember his face after I read it. I too remember having this feeling of disdain in life for I am still struggling with this emotion myself. His writings were ones in which he was proud of yet he wanted an honest opinion. I was the one to deliver this honesty to him, but who am I to judge one's work indifferently. After reading his work my exact words were " This is better than you probably think young man ". He smiled and went on to do impersonations next.
Impersonation after impersonation. If he could have he would have done all that he knew. He did attempt to do Obama, Madea, and others but the train began to get even more crowded than before. Even though they were not all satisfactory they were still great attempts and I enjoyed his open-ness with me, a total stranger. He then began to open up even more. He told me about his aspirations and goals and I could definitely identify with him for I have many of the same. He told me about how he was with DCFS and how hard his life had been. I began to envision how my hard times had been. He went on to tell me about how his family didn’t think he'd graduate from high school and how he'd moved from Dallas to Chicago due to rough times. This young man told me how he wanted to go to college and become a great actor or writer. I then gave him the encouragement he needed. I asked him his age and he told me he was 20 years old. I asked him had he been looking into school and the words that came out of his mouth next would help both him and I. He said "It's too late for me to go to college now". My mouth dropped and my heart became saddened. Too late for college? Too late for a new beginning at life? Too late to further your education and your 20??? Absurd.

This past Saturday was my father's Birthday and of course I caught myself in my feelings, as usual. It's like my days are already hard enough without my parents so having to think about what we could be doing for his special day if he was here makes me even more frustrated. I promise to not get any further into my feelings so I will just leave this Jam Of The Day. I needed this today and even though it left me in tears as I drove to work I appreciate the sincerity of the song as I really should just not think about it to much.. SIGHS.
I was introduced to this song I think around 2007/2008 by a guy named Kris who I just so happen to meet one day during my toughest times while walking down the street in Chicago. As I went to the store to go put minutes on my pre-paid phone he walked around the corner looking like nothing I had ever seen before. Louis Vuitton scarf on his head and Louis duffel bag he approached me and asked for my number in which I gladly obliged. He actually ended up being from NYC and at the time was staying in my hometown of Chicago actually in the building across the street from mine that my aunt used to live in. He and I had very nice talks about music, life, dreams, and many other topics then when he played this song it just made my soul happy. Even though he had not changed for me LOL.. I appreciated his company during that time as I was trying to find my way and pick myself up from nothing. I definitely pray that one day I too find a man that wants to not only change for me but also for himself and the quality of love that does exist out here. I hope it makes you feel the same way or close to. *Smile*
Thanks to my friend Valo I have had more than my laugh for the day. Jenna Marbles always delivers the most hilarious YouTube vids but this one here is probably my favorite but then again I have many favorites from her LOL. Enjoy.
This is one of my favorite songs form Kanye West's 808's and Heartbreak Album. After watching him perform this live atop a makeshift mountain with snow falling and his face covered by a Margiela mask I fell in love. The song is very meaningful and at times has even evoked tears and sadness from me but at time they were tears of joy. It was as if I could feel his pain from his loss as I too have lost those dearest to me. For some reason I needed this song today as I thrive on only great memories of my mother and father who are now in Heaven. Only I and my long lost brother Ye can understand this

After attending a listening party for a dope rap duo out of Brooklyn called "Wise Guyz Twins" I was introduced to a Guru hit by a friend.(I will revisit the Wise Guyz Twins in another post as they are the hottest duo /artists out of Brooklyn right now.) Back to the message at hand, my friend was adamant that Guru was definitely what real rap was as he stated that his uncles had introduced him and that I should take a listen. Being that I normally try to do as much research about an artist as I can before I cling on I came across of course his bio first. With a very extensive resume comprised of not only music, Guru and Gang Starr were quite a movement. Guru himself was a rapper, actor and producer and many of his albums made Billboard Charts. With 10 albums released from 1993 to 2009 and over 40 guest appearances from 1990 to 2010 Guru has graced tracks for the Mo' Better Blues Soundtrack to a De La Soul Album. Unfortunately, Guru went on to heaven at the age of 48 after a battle with cancer but his music will live on forever.
After doing some research for a great Guru track I stumbled upon "Count Your Blessings" from the JazzMatazz Volume II Album. This is a track filled with substance, overcoming struggles, and persevering and I felt it is what was needed for today especially being that I too get caught up in the world of frustration and wonders.

How many music lover's remember this smooth and subtle jam??? I know that even though I was young when it was introduced in 2002 I still loved the way she gracefully caused the listener to feel her hurt. Telling a story about being in love with a man who is basically stressing her as he is now absent. As she relives the good memories, slightly begging for him to come back, and crying her heart out she also had the ability to make smoking cigarettes at night sound appealing. LOL. Take a listen and let me know how you feel about it. I know that it is definitely a favorite of mine and always will be.

It seems as if no one remembers this track but me LOL. Lil' Kim featuring Lil' Shanice "Aunt Dot" ,from her album The Notorious K.I.M, is definitely a track that one should get in tune with. Lil Kim is at her best here as she tells a story about taking in her niece Shanice because her Aunt Dot is going to handle some business. Not only is Kim rapping as herself but also her Aunt Dot. You have few bars delivered from Lil' Shanice who brings that soft child's voice but also a little ahead of the game and just as tough as Kim. This is the for sure a classic. Take a listen and let me know what you think.
I was riding to work when this song came on and it immediately caught my attention. J.Cole seemed to capture every element of the injustice that was committed on the day that unarmed teen ,Mike Brown, was gunned down by a white police officer in Ferguson,MO. JCole inserted the interview from Mike's friend who happened to be walking with him when this tragedy happened and I immediately began to cry. The emotions that I felt were not foreign but I don't think I have ever experienced anger, sadness,disgust, and grief all at once. The feeling was beyond powerful but I had to pull myself together so that it would not lead to hatred for those that treat us like animals and are inhumane. I started praying as the song was playing and asking God to save us from these kind of people. When I first saw the pictures of his lifeless body laying in the street and a pool of blood trickling down that street from his injuries I felt as if I had lost a brother, son, nephew, and friend as well. Much respect to J.Cole as he gave the listener more than just a powerful heartfelt tribute but he provided LIFE for all those that have been killed unjustly by those that they appoint to protect and serve our communities.

If this doesn't make you bounce then you need to relax a little! LOL. This joint is definitely a banger as you have QUE "our favorite lil cousin with swag" finessing it with his flow. He delivered many clever and well equipped bars. Then in walks 2 Chainz like our "favorite dope uncle that lights a spliff in public when he knows its not legal" as he delivers that country bounce. I have probably listened to this FIRE several times. Even now, I am listening to it in the kitchen and slowly bouncing side to side.
